Mansfield Traquair is one of the most visually striking wedding venues in Edinburgh, known for its soaring arches, rich murals, and incredible sense of atmosphere. For couples planning a wedding here, it offers a setting that feels both grand and intimate — perfect for natural, documentary-style photography.
I was so pleased to return to Mansfield Traquair to photograph this beautiful Edinburgh wedding. It’s a venue that never feels the same twice, yet always delivers something special. This wedding was full of warmth, laughter, and genuine connection — the kind of day that doesn’t need directing. From the very beginning, there was a relaxed, joyful energy that carried through every part of the celebration. The ceremony, set beneath the incredible murals, felt both emotional and atmospheric. Moments unfolded naturally — quiet glances, laughter between friends, and that unmistakable feeling when everyone is fully present.
As a documentary wedding photographer in Edinburgh, these are the moments I look for — real, unposed, and fleeting. Mansfield Traquair is often described as one of Edinburgh’s most unique wedding venues, and it’s easy to see why.
The dramatic painted murals create an unforgettable backdrop
The scale of the space adds a sense of occasion without feeling overwhelming
The light is soft and atmospheric, perfect for natural photography
The iconic red doors and surrounding streets offer beautiful, relaxed portrait locations
It’s a venue that allows the story of the day to unfold naturally, while still giving every moment a sense of visual depth. One of the things I love about photographing weddings here is how easy it is to step outside for a few minutes and create something different. We took a short walk around the nearby streets, using the textures of the city and the contrast with the venue itself to create relaxed, natural portraits — nothing forced, just a moment to pause and breathe together. As the day moved into the evening, the atmosphere shifted effortlessly. Speeches were full of personality and emotion, and the dancefloor quickly filled with energy.
This is where documentary wedding photography really comes into its own — capturing the chaos, the movement, and the moments people don’t even realise are happening.
