It’s hard to imagine a more central Edinburgh location for a wedding ceremony. Edinburgh City Chambers sits right on the Royal Mile, in the heart of the Old Town, surrounded by some of the city’s most recognisable historic streets and architecture.
This lovely couple had their summer wedding ceremony in the European Suite at Edinburgh City Chambers. The building itself is wonderful for photography, with its historic interiors and maze of staircases giving us plenty of opportunities for photographs without having to go anywhere else.
After the ceremony, the couple and I stepped outside onto the Royal Mile for a short walk and some relaxed portraits. That’s one of the things I love about photographing City Chambers weddings — there’s no journey required to find a beautiful Edinburgh backdrop. You leave the ceremony and you’re immediately in the middle of the Old Town.
And the Royal Mile is never really just a backdrop. There are visitors, street life and people passing by, and this couple attracted plenty of attention and congratulations along the way. It gave their photographs that unmistakable feeling of being married right in the centre of Edinburgh.
For couples planning a small or intimate Edinburgh wedding, City Chambers works particularly well if you’d like to combine a simple city-centre ceremony with natural photographs around the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Old Town afterwards.
