Mansfield Traquair is an extraordinary place for a wedding, but what I remember most about this particular day is the people. Family and friends travelled from around the world to Edinburgh to celebrate with this lovely couple, creating such a warm and happy atmosphere from the very beginning. The ceremony took place beneath the incredible murals and arches of Mansfield Traquair. It is a spectacular setting, but once the ceremony begins, my attention is always on what is happening between people — the expressions, little glances, laughter and reactions from family and friends. After the ceremony, everyone could relax, catch up and enjoy being together. With guests travelling such long distances to be there, there was a real sense of celebration throughout the day. 

Celebrating at Mansfield Traquair

Mansfield Traquair has so much character that you don't need to do very much with it. The murals, stone arches, high ceilings and beautiful light create an incredible atmosphere around the wedding, while still allowing the people and everything happening between them to remain at the heart of the photographs. I photographed the celebration naturally as it unfolded, alongside a few relaxed portraits of the couple. There was plenty of laughter, emotion and all those little interactions that make every wedding different. The celebrations continued through to the first dance at Mansfield Traquair, which was a lovely way to finish the story of the day in such an impressive space.

Every wedding I've photographed here has had its own personality, and that is one of the reasons I enjoy returning to Mansfield Traquair. The venue may be the same, but the people, relationships and atmosphere make the photographs completely different every time.
