Edinburgh is a wonderful city for a couple photo session, especially if you're visiting Scotland and want to take home something more personal than holiday snapshots. The Royal Mile and Princes Street Gardens give you two completely different sides of the city within a short walk of each other – historic Edinburgh streets followed by beautiful green spaces and views towards the castle.

This lovely couple travelled from London for their pre-wedding photo shoot in Edinburgh. October greeted us in typical Scottish fashion with a few rain showers and plenty of clouds, but by the time we headed out into the city the sky had cleared and we were treated to surprisingly warm, almost summery weather. We started around the Royal Mile, using its historic closes, stone buildings and busy streets as the backdrop for relaxed couple photographs. From there we continued towards Princes Street Gardens, where the greenery and views of Edinburgh Castle created a completely different atmosphere. The couple chose to wear their beautiful traditional clothing for the session, adding colour and personality to the photographs and attracting a little attention as we explored the city. Their outfits looked fantastic against Edinburgh's historic architecture and made the photographs feel especially personal to them.

Couple sessions like this are relaxed and informal. We walk, explore, chat and stop whenever we find beautiful light or an interesting corner of the city. There is no need to spend the whole session posing for the camera – the aim is to create natural photographs of the two of you while also capturing something of your experience of being in Edinburgh together.
